I just moved into a house which has been vacant for a while. The problem is that the Jet Dry in the dishwasher (which is fairly new) has gelled, due to it not running for a while. I’ve tried pouring vinegar in there and that’s not helping. Any ideas?

To clean out plastic dishes which contained oil or oily food: Take a newspaper half and tear it up into small pieces. Get some detergent and add the newspaper bits and the detergent to the plastic dish and add water. Cover the dish and shake it up a bit. Then, remove the cover and the pieces of paper and wash in running water. The dish will be squeaky clean!

We have a 30 year old home that has been completely repainted, the carpet removed, and one third of the floor covered in tile. Yet a persistent attic smell remains if the house is closed up for even a small period of time. There is exposed concrete in the living room, dining room and bedrooms, could this be the problem? Any ideas how to solve this issue?
