My mother-in-law has very hard water. She is unable to hook up her water softener to her fridge where she has water and ice on the door (a side by side). The whole back panel is loaded with white water spots that will not come off. Any ideas to get the spots off the black plastic?

Hairspray on eyeglass lenses is a tough one to remove. Take a rubbing alcohol pad (or a little on a cotton ball from the bottle) and rub over the lenses til they feel smooth again. Rinse well under running water and use a little Dawn detergent (this does not harm any anti-reflective coatings or scratch cote you may have on your lenses) as you do not want to place the glasses back on with the rubbing alcohol on them.

My family and decided to go green back in August. We live in a rural community and there are few green products available. One day while experimenting with a better way to clean the commode, my daughter and I decided to use baking soda and plain white vinegar. This did a decent job, but there was lots of scrubbing involved. The next time we tried baking soda again, but this time we used red wine vinegar and it was amazing.
